BILLERICA, Mass. (AP) — A SUV being appeared to imminent purchasers at a swarmed indoor auto sell off all of a sudden quickened with a shriek of its tires and smashed through a divider Wednesday morning, killing three individuals and harming nine.

A closeout representative in his 70s was in the driver’s seat of the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee when it clearly staggered wild and cut individuals down at LynnWay Auto Auction in Billerica, around 20 miles (32 kilometers) northwest of Boston.

One man and two ladies were murdered in the crash, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said at a news gathering. Nine individuals were harmed, incorporating two with life-undermining wounds, she said. The driver wasn’t hospitalized, she said.

“The preparatory examination proposes this is a lamentable mishap,” Ryan said.

Massachusetts State Police agents are attempting to reproduce the mishap, which happened while a few hundred individuals were in the building.

Woody Tuttle, an auto sell off representative who saw the crash, told WCVB-TV that the building has eight paths in which vehicles on the closeout obstruct. Individuals were remaining between the paths when one vehicle all of a sudden took off, Tuttle said.

“I heard a shrieking of tires, and, I trust, a Jeep Cherokee went flying by me,” he told the station. “In maintaining a strategic distance from the autos, whoever was driving this vehicle hit a few people.”

The vehicle at that point experienced the mass of the building, Tuttle said.

The driver “maintained a strategic distance from the autos, and went ahead to hit the general population who were remaining between the autos,” Tuttle told WCVB-TV.

Auto merchant Fredrick Kyazze said he and a partner had quite recently moved out of the way of the SUV minutes before it tore through the building.

“We heard a blast from where we just originated from,” Kyazze said. “I thought presumably the building caved in or something to that effect. At that point we kept running back to perceive what was happening and … we just observed individuals lying on the floor.”

Crisis work force rushed to react to the scene since four cops and a firefighter are routinely positioned at the sale site as a result of the extensive group it draws each Wednesday, Billerica Police Chief Daniel Rosa said. Ambulances from a few encompassing towns reacted.

Pictures from TV helicopters demonstrated a vehicle canvassed in flotsam and jetsam. Doctors wheeled individuals out of the expanding on gurneys.

In 2015, a SUV driven by an elderly man plunged through an auto sell off in the Boston suburb of Framingham, striking different autos, benefactors and a soot square divider and harming eight individuals. No charges were recorded.
